SOME THOUGHTS ON TERROR
Ps. 91:1-7
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust." Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.”
Terror. Sheer paralyzing terror. That is the objective. To cause you and me and our neighbors and our friends to become so fearful that we will, for all practical purposes, give up our own lives, stop doing those things that have been meaningful and precious to us, and hide ourselves away. Terror is a powerful weapon. It is the weapon of our enemy. That is true in the natural realm and the spiritual as well.
We can fight against flesh and blood and prevail. But how do we fight terror? The angels say, “Fear not.” Paul said, “Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes.” (Read Eph. 4:11-18).
We must remember that, ultimately, our security does not come from our army or from our government. Our security comes from our LORD, the True and Living God, who is God Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, the Sovereign Ruler of nations. It is He who holds you, and me, and all who trust in Him in the very palm of His hand.
In an earlier time, God made this promise to His people: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." That is still God’s promise and it is the only true solution for terror . . . put your hope in God.
God bless you. God bless America.
