SMALL BEGINNINGS
Zech. 4:10
“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin.”
This instruction was given to the people who were on hand to witness the start of the effort to rebuild God’s temple in Jerusalem. There were a few there then who had seen it before its destruction, and they could not imagine any way that it could ever be as great and as beautiful as it had been. But God had called His people to the task, and to despise the day of small beginnings was to discount the plan and the power of God! He was in charge, and He knew what He was doing.
Even today we are still prone to say, “It can’t be done, no way!” But the impossible is reasonable with God! We see the beginning, but God sees the beginning AND the end. We think in terms of what is. God knows what can be.
As you think about what God is doing in your life, and in the life of His church -- as you look forward into the new year – remember this verse: “The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day” (Prov. 4:18).
