DEFEATING YOUR GIANTS

1 Sam. 17:12-51

There are things in life that seem impossible; there are obstacles that seem insurmountable; there are situations that appear unchangeable.  If you are facing something like that, take encouragement from this story in 1 Samuel.  The way David faced Goliath may give you some clues as to how God would have you face the giants in your life.

David didn’t appear to be able – he isn’t the expected “hero” in this story (SEE vv. 12-15).

PEOPLE SEE THE OUTWARD APPEARANCE, BUT REMEMBER THAT GOD KNOWS YOUR HEART.

David didn’t get any support from his brothers (vs. 28).

DON’T LOOK TO MAN FOR SUPPORT; YOUR GOD WILL BE FAITHFUL.

David was not dissuaded from his purpose by the unbelief of others (vs. 33).

PUT YOUR TRUST IN THE PRESENCE AND PROMISES OF GOD.

David’s faith was built on real-life experiences with God (vv. 34-37).

REMEMBER WHAT GOD HAS ALREADY DONE IN YOUR LIFE.

David didn’t try to use someone else’s armor (vv. 38-39).

GOD HAS CALLED YOU BECAUSE YOU ARE WHO HE WANTS.  TRUST GOD’S CHOICE!

David was a shepherd and he used the weapons of a shepherd (vs. 40).

YOUR LIFE EXPERIENCE IS YOUR BOOT CAMP – TAKE WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNED IN LIFE AND PUT IT TO USE.

David’s enemy had fearsome weapons, but he relied on the power of the living God (vs. 45).

GOD IS ALWAYS GREATER THAN YOUR PROBLEM.

David understood that, if he was obedient, God would fight the battle for him (vv. 46-47).

WHEN YOU TAKE A STAND FOR GOD, HE FIGHTS FOR YOU.

David was victorious (vv. 48-49).

THE VICTORIES IN THE CHRISTIAN LIFE ARE TRIUMPHS OF YOUR FAITH AND OBEDIENCE, NOT OF YOUR POWER AND MIGHT.
