BELIEVING WHAT WE KNOW

Isa. 55:10-11

“As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”

There are just a whole lot of things that we don’t know about God.  His ways really are higher than ours and His thoughts really are higher than ours.  Really!  Still there is much that we do know about Him because He has revealed it to us in His Word.  We know that He is good (Ps. 100:5) and that all His ways are just and true (Rev. 15:3).  We know that He is wise (Rom. 11:33) and that He works all things together for His people’s benefit (Rom. 8:26).  We know that He is mighty (Rev. 19:6) and that He can accomplish whatever He desires (Isa. 46:11).

And putting all these things together enables us to know that we can trust Him because His Word will never fail to accomplish the purpose for which it has been sent.  It won’t necessarily happen overnight – first the bud and flower, then seed for the sower, and finally bread for the eater.  But we can be sure that God’s Word will, ultimately, produce growth and life and strength in us.

This is truth.  I encourage you to receive it, believe it, and then act like you believe it.
